Radiant heat is a series of tubes carrying hot water which are located beneath the floor surface. As the water within the tubes is warmed, the heat within rises above the floor to warm the air above. The heating source for radiant heat is either a boiler or a water heater and other various components like valves and circulators. Radiant heat is more comfortable than forced air heat in that it works more naturally, similar to how the sun heats a room. Radiant heat is cleaner than forced air heat because it doesn’t disturb dust or pollen. It is also more efficient in that heat is not lost to ductwork. Radiant heat is also more attractive as the system is hidden beneath the floor with no unsightly radiators or baseboards.
